The kapok fiber is known for its temperature-regulating and moisture-wicking properties. When you sleep on a kapok mattress, your bed will neither become damp, cold, nor too hot. A kapok mattress is therefore especially suitable for infants. Newborns have difficulty regulating their temperature on their own. It is important for newborns to maintain a temperature around 37 degrees, and they must not become too cold or too warm. Therefore, the kapok baby mattress is the perfect choice for newborns. Like all mattresses, it is a good idea to stand the mattress on its side from time to time to air it out. If you have a bed with a slatted base, you should pay particular attention to airing out the mattress regularly. These bed bases make it harder to transport moisture away from the mattress. Kapok transports moisture and heat away from the child, but if the moisture cannot escape from the bottom of the mattress, it gets trapped between the mattress and the slatted base. This can, in the worst case, lead to mold spores forming under the mattress. Unfortunately, this can happen regardless of which mattress is used. Therefore, feel free to air the mattress once a week, or as needed.
