Find the best breast pump here
There can be many reasons why a mother needs to express breast milk for her child. Perhaps she has an excess of milk and wants to donate the surplus. Maybe the baby needs to be cared for, and she wants to ensure that the baby has breast milk to eat. Maybe there are breastfeeding problems, so expressed breast milk is the best way to provide the important nourishment to the child. It could also be something completely different.
Regardless of the reason, it is important that it happens as easily and gently as possible, so that it does not become an obstacle, but instead a help for parents and child in everyday life.
Manual or automatic breast pump
There are many opinions about whether a manual or automatic breast pump is best. In the end, it is about using what is best for oneself. An automatic breast pump can tend to be a bit more forceful in suction and in the way it operates. You also cannot control it in the same way as you can with a manual breast pump.
A manual breast pump is available in different designs. It is important that you find the one that you are most comfortable with and that works best for you. At Naturebaby.dk, we have found our favorite, which works by vacuum and can be turned into a feeding bottle with a snap.
How to store breast milk
The best way to store expressed breast milk is in a clean container in the refrigerator. The temperature should not exceed +5 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the milk can last for about 3 days. If the milk is placed in the freezer, it can last up to 6 months at -18 degrees Celsius.
Remember that if you thaw the milk, you should not freeze it again. Quickly thawed milk should be used immediately or discarded. If you have thawed the milk slowly, it can last for about a day in the refrigerator. If you have heated the milk, it should be used immediately or discarded.
Remember to thoroughly clean your breast pump after use. Some breast pumps need to be boiled, while others can be scalded by pouring boiling water over them and letting them sit for a few minutes. Remember to refer to the instructions on the product you purchase.
