How does it work?
There is an All-in-One, a One-Size, and a two-part diaper system.
Two-part diaper system:
There are three essential parts that make up the cloth diaper: the cloth diaper, the diaper pants, and the disposable insert.
The cloth diaper is placed closest to the child's skin and is the part that absorbs.
Inside the diaper is the disposable insert which catches all the stool, allowing it to be thrown directly into the toilet or a diaper pail. Therefore, you do not get stool directly in the diaper, leaving only a wet diaper.
Outside the diaper, a diaper pants are used, which ensure that when the absorbing diaper gets wet, it is kept inside the diaper and the clothes remain dry.
All-in-One contains both the diaper and the diaper pants in one, meaning you only need to use a disposable insert with an All-in-One.
The One-Size diaper includes diaper pants and an insert that clicks in with buttons. This model is also popularly known as a hybrid cloth diaper or an AI2 (all in 2).
The individual parts
The diaper, the one that absorbs
The terry cloth diaper is extra absorbent, the included insert is not sewn in and the diaper is therefore suitable both as a day diaper without an insert or only with the included insert and as a night diaper with an extra square insert in it. We have put together an economical starter pack that contains everything you need if you wish to exclusively use this diaper.
The terry cloth diaper comes in two sizes, Newborn and One-size. For the smallest, the newborn size fits babies from 2-6 kg. The one-size fits throughout the diaper period, but it can feel a bit large at first. See in the film guide how to best fit the one-size to a newborn.
You will need about 20 cloth diapers. If you choose to use cloth diapers from when your baby is newborn, you can start with a mix of newborn one-size and then replace the newborn diapers with one-size when the child is about 6-7 kilos. After that, the cloth diaper is one-size, and you won't need to buy more cloth diapers for the rest of the child's diaper period. You can also buy one-size from the start. It is cheaper, and you can see in the film guide how to best fit one-size to a newborn.
The Diaper Cover
The diaper cover is used over the diaper and ensures that when the absorbent diaper gets wet, it is kept inside the diaper, and the clothes remain dry. The diaper cover is not changed with every diaper change. During a normal diaper change, only the inner absorbent diaper and the disposable liner are changed. If anything gets on the diaper cover, it is of course changed, but otherwise, the diaper cover can usually be used all day.
All diaper covers come in different sizes, and as the child grows, new ones need to be purchased. You will need 3-5 diaper covers, and if you use cloth diapers from when your baby is newborn, you will need to buy diaper covers a total of 3 times.
Disposable Liners
Rice paper/disposable liners are used to collect any stool, so you don't have to wash it off the diaper. You can throw it in a diaper bin or trash bag, and then you only have a wet diaper left to wash.
All-in-One
The luxury diaper. Modern all-in-one cloth diaper. No extra diapers or diaper covers. This is the diaper that most resembles a disposable diaper in use. It is the diaper for you who want the easy solution without compromising on quality. All-in-One includes both diaper and diaper cover in one, meaning you only need to use disposable liners with an All-in-One. You can choose to supplement with extra square terry inserts if your child urinates a lot. This insert also fits regular diapers and can advantageously be used there as well.
You can choose to use only this diaper for the entire diaper period. You will need about 18 pieces. If your child is very small at birth, or you are planning an early birth, size Premature 2.5-5 kg may be preferable in the beginning. If your child is completely average, we recommend starting with size Small. When the child outgrows Small, buy Medium, and finally size Large. You will need 3 sizes of diapers for the entire diaper period. We can always be contacted for personal guidance.
You can also choose to supplement your collection of cloth diapers with All-in-One. It is perfect to use if, for example, you are going out, others are taking care of your child, or you are somewhere where a diaper change is just more troublesome than usual, as it also fits easily in the diaper bag. Here, even the most clumsy dads, grandparents, and friends can manage. It is also ideal for daycare, where it will make diaper changes easier for the educators.
This diaper is also particularly good for nighttime or long naps, as it is extra absorbent on its own. The microfleece can be placed on top of the diaper, giving the child a drier feeling against the skin and making it easier for them to sleep through the night if this has been an issue. It is therefore especially suitable for children who urinate a lot.
The All-in-One comes in different sizes, and as the child grows, new ones need to be purchased.
The One-Size Cloth Diaper
The most economical solution. The two-part diaper system is also very economical to use; however, the one-size diaper is slightly cheaper as you do not need to replace anything along the way. What you start with, you use throughout the entire diaper period. The one-size diaper functions as a diaper pant and an insert that you click together. When you buy a diaper, two different sizes of inserts are included. The diaper pant can be adjusted to be larger or smaller using the buttons in the front and the very flexible velcro pieces over the stomach. For a newborn, the diaper pant is set to the smallest size, and only the smallest insert is used. For nighttime or as the child grows, either the large insert or both inserts clicked together are used. The diaper pant is expanded using the buttons according to the child's
size.
When the child has urinated in the diaper, only the insert is changed; the diaper pant is kept unless it has become very wet or dirty. Therefore, on average, you need about 8 one-size diapers and an additional 12 inserts to have a full-time supply. We recommend 8 extra inserts in organic cotton and 4 nighttime inserts. If you choose to buy our Starter Pack, everything you need is included, and you don't have to think about anything else.
There are different inserts available for the One-size diaper. It comes with inserts in organic cotton, which are good for daytime use. Additionally, nighttime inserts with extra absorbency or bamboo/cotton inserts can be purchased, but note that these are not organic.
The one-size diaper is also suitable for daycare or institutions as it is easy to use. It is not suitable for very small newborns or premature babies, as it will only fit well from around 4 kg.
How much do I need
You need about 18-20 cloth diapers and 3-5 diaper pants. You can supplement with extra absorbent inserts. If you choose to buy some All-in-One, you will need correspondingly fewer cloth diapers, as the All-in-One serves as a normal cloth diaper.
How do I use it
Click here to go to the film guide.
First, lay out a diaper pant unfolded.
Inside the diaper pant, place a diaper.
Finally, place a disposable insert in.
Then fold the diaper (with the disposable insert) around the child, close the snap buttons, and finally secure it with the diaper pant, which is easily closed with velcro fasteners.
If the next diaper change is completely normal, only the inner absorbent diaper and the disposable insert are changed. If something has gotten on the diaper pant, it is of course changed, but otherwise, the diaper pant can usually be used all day.
What about washing?
Note: We advise against using Neutral detergent, as we have experience that it damages the velcro on the All-in-One and the diaper pants. If the diapers are washed with Neutral, we can no longer guarantee the velcro. Instead, use, for example, Swan-labeled or organic detergent. Here you should be aware that it does not may contain enzymes or zeolite, as this will cause extra rapid wear on the diapers.
Note also: If you want your diapers to last for more than one child, you need to take good care of them. We recommend washing at a maximum of 40° and adding 1-2 teaspoons of Ulrich Natürlich stain remover to your detergent. This removes all bacteria and any odor. Do not use a tumble dryer and use only a little detergent. It takes a lot out of a product to be washed repeatedly at high temperatures, so use caution and your diapers will last a long time.
Most people with small children wash at least one load of laundry a day. If you wash the used diapers together with your other laundry, you will hardly notice the extra laundry and you save electricity and detergent by combining it all. If you wash once a day, you will typically have 6-8 diapers, 1 pair of diaper pants, and a couple of inserts in the wash. You can also choose to wash all the diapers alone every 2-3 days.
1. After changing the diaper, place it in the laundry basket/bin. It can stay there for up to 3 days. You do not need to rinse the diaper, but we recommend a rinse in cold water if there has been a bowel movement.
2. Normally, diapers and diaper pants are washed at 40° or 60°. The diapers can also be washed at 90°, but this will wear them out extra and shorten their lifespan.
3. It is recommended to hang the diapers to dry. This saves both electricity (and the environment) and the diapers do not wear out as quickly as in a tumble dryer. However, all diapers can tolerate tumble drying on low heat, so if you need it to go fast, it can certainly be used. On the clothesline, terry cloth diapers dry in about 8 hours and All-in-One diapers in about 18-24 hours.
We recommend washing the diapers at 40° for the sake of the environment and adding 1-2 teaspoons of Ulrich Natürlich stain remover to your detergent. This removes all bacteria and any odor. Easy and environmentally friendly.
Before you start using the diapers, remember to wash everything that needs to absorb. So you do not need to wash, for example, the diaper pants, but diapers, inserts, towels, training pants, etc. absorb best after one, preferably two washes.
Remember to close the Velcro fasteners on the diaper pants and All-in-One before washing.
Do not use fabric softener, as this reduces the absorbency of the diapers, just like in towels.
If you think your diapers are becoming discolored, there are several things to try. We generally do not recommend harsh bleaching products, as these are full of chemicals. You can wash the diapers and avoid drying them. Then place them out in the sun and the ultraviolet rays will bleach the diaper for you. You can also use Ulrich Natürlich stain remover for the stains. Remember, a discolored diaper does not mean that the diaper is not clean. If the diaper has been washed at at least 75° or you have used Ulrich Natürlich stain remover, the diaper is always clean of bacteria.
