Tænk has conducted a test where they demonstrate that disposable diapers contain unwanted chemicals. Another popular "green" brand has also been found more or less unsuitable. I wouldn't say that it surprises me, but I am seriously disappointed. The diapers, including the "green" ones, are almost exclusively based on fossil materials and there is not much recycling or greenness about them.
"Pampers Baby dry, Bambo Nature Maxi, and MoltexNature No. 1 Ökowindeln, however, only contained small traces of PAHs. The substances are typically found in the products due to contamination during production."
quote from Tænk.dk.
The absolute best alternative to disposable diapers is cloth diapers. Unfortunately, it is no longer completely mainstream, but they are increasing in popularity. People are becoming more and more aware of unwanted chemicals and environmental impact, and this is the incentive for many to make a change.
We have just received a new brand of disposable diapers, Naty. A few years ago, I swore that I would never have disposable diapers in the store, but I had to give in. The demand for genuine "green" disposable diapers is high because not everyone prefers cloth diapers. Naty has thorough tests behind them, I have seen and read them myself, and they have been independently tested on Babygearlab, where they received a 2nd place out of 24, not bad!
There are plenty of alternatives to disposable diapers with unwanted chemicals, and I am sure that the children are the winners in the end if you choose to make the switch!
