Is Weleda for babies without perfume? What should I choose for my child?
There is a huge market of products for children and it is easy to get confused, both as a first-time or "experienced" mother. Let's take a look at Weleda's products.
Is there perfume in Weleda's baby products?
Weleda baby has two series, the regular yellow Calendula series and the new White Mallow.
The Calendula series is the original one, where calendula is the active ingredient that helps make these products so fantastic. Essential oils are added, which are actually considered perfume, even though they occur naturally.
White Mallow is their brand new series, which is based on the plant called marshmallow, yes it sounds strange, but that's what it's called in Danish. It does not contain any essential oils/perfume.
What should I choose?
If there are allergies, eczema, or asthma in the family, then you should choose White Mallow, which does not contain essential oils. Essential oils rarely do any good in these cases, and there is no reason to take any chances. The only downside is that so far there are only three products from Weleda baby with White Mallow. But I'm sure more will come soon.
If you don't have any allergies, eczema, or asthma in the family, then it is, in my personal opinion, perfectly fine to choose a product with essential oils, as long as they are used sparingly and it is from a source you trust. At home, we have always used Weleda's baby products with calendula. Especially their Nappy change cream or diaper cream is absolutely fantastic, it beats all others without any problems, yes even those from the pharmacy. After thorough testing at home, we can also conclude that it is more effective against diaper rash than the one with White Mallow nappy change cream.
There are many opinions on this and it is always a good idea to expose your baby to as few allergens as possible. But use your common sense and feel what you are most comfortable with. Every family is different. :)
